DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 27 (Heterocyclic Compounds (One Hetero Atom)) The title modification of the Kostanecki-Robinson reaction for prepn. of flavonoids involves the use of anhyd. tertiary amines, usually NEt3 or N-ethylmorpholine, as solvent. Galangin 3-Me ether (I, R = R1, H), tamarixetin (I, R = MeO, R1 = OH), and flavone I (RR1 = OCH2O) were prepd. by the method. The 7-piperonylate of I (RR1 = OCH2O) was isolable when NaHCO3 was used as base in the isolation. Treating protocatechuic anhydride tetraacetate with w-methoxychloroacetophenone in NEt3 gave 2-methyl-3-methoxy-5,7-dihydroxychromone. .
